The joint Kelso United and Thistle racenight last Saturday (12/11/11) raised a total of £1030 for club funds. Thanks to all who came along, to the sponsors, and to Billy and Debbie at the Legion for hosting the night.
Help! Please.
These days it's getting more and more difficult to raise money through commercial sponsorship, so the club are looking for someone with a bit of savvy, and a bit of time, to help us make the most of the grant opportunities that exist out there. If anyone thinks they could help us out with this, please email us at kelsofc@hotmail.co.uk, or register here and send us a message. Thanks a lot!
New Season Starts Soon!
The new SBJFA season starts the first weekend in September. Just to clarify what's happening this season, the 13s to 17s age groups start the season as normal, and play through to June (apart from the winter break).
It gets a little more complicated for the younger age groups. The set of fixtures from September to November are considered the second half of the season (now March-November for small-sided football), so (for example) the 8s remain 8s until November, then return in Feb/March as 9s. For that reason there is no 12s age group until March, and they only play half a season as 12s before becoming 13s in August.
The other change is the regionalisation at 8s-11s. This was in response to concerns that it can be a long journey to Peebles for 30 minutes playing time. So the 8s now play a mini-festival format. Of course this means less home games, but more playing time when they play and only relatively short journeys. In the case of the 9s-11s, the groups are small and involve teams closer to Kelso. We'll see how it works out; clearly it might get a bit boring playing the same teams every week, and changes may be made after the winter break.
Anyway, good luck to all!
